MAURICE J. KERRIGAN & ASSPCIATES POLICIES AND PROCEDURES IN TRAINING
This section sets out a summary of the major policies and procedures affecting students and their training administration. For full details of our policies and procedures please read our student handbook, available HERE.
It is imperative that potential enrolees make themselves familiar with these policies as part of their enrolment process, as agreeing to these policies and conditions forms part of the enrolment contract.
2015:
Enrolment: Enrolment will only be accepted and finalised upon receipt of an accurately completed current enrolment form, and cleared payment of the enrolment fee and first tuition instalment (or RPL fee).
Fees:
Enrolment fees comprise an administrative fee covering establishment and maintenance of the learners Student file. For 2014 the enrolment fee is set at $50.00. This fee is not refundable
Tuition fees are progressive payments made as set out in course materials covering learning materials and assessments. In accordance with the Refund Policy below these fees may be proportionately refunded to a learner in certain circumstances.
Payment: In our compliance with current regulation of Registered Training Organisations it is not possible for an individual to pay for tuition in a single payment. Payments are to be made as indicated in the enrolment documentation (and payment schedule included in the Students Handbook). Currently this stands at $50.00 enrolment / administration fee for each course enrolled in; 3 x $500.00 instalments for the Certificate III in Investigative Services; 4 x $500.00 instalments for Certificate IV courses. Groups enrolled through Government Departments or corporations will be invoiced as negotiated.
Recognition of Prior Learning: All candidates accepted for enrolment will be considered for recognition of prior learning and/or recognition of current competence as part of their enrolment process. Candidates may apply for RPL simultaneous to their enrolment, prior to commencing training, or prior to commencing individual competencies. RPL may be granted for one or more complete competencies or for one or more elements of competency, up to and including award of the qualification if packaging rules are met. RPL may be granted for core and elective units as specified in the training package. Candidates may access the training packages and the rules thereof through http://www.training.gov.au . There is no differentiation between credentials awarded through RPL, assessment only, or training and assessment.
Refund: Maurice J Kerrigan & Associates has a policy of refunding tuition fees prior to the commencement of a course.
MJK will issue refunds when:
A course has been cancelled by MJK;
A student provides written notice prior to the issue of any training material and first online unit being sent out to the student;
A student accepts a similar course offer from a different educational institution within the first month of that course;
A student is unable to attend a programmed training course due to extended hospitalisation / illness, and /or pregnancy / childbirth. A
medical certificate must support refund claims on these grounds.
MJK will not issue refunds for:
A change in a students working hours;
Moving interstate or overseas;
Change of employment;
Students who leave before finishing a course or module;
A three month period has elapsed after enrolment.
Continued Enrolment: Your enrolment will remain active as long as you meet the Progress rules stipulated below, clearance of scheduled payments, and compliance with OH&S, equity diversity and harassment policies in place during your enrolment. If these criteria are not met, your enrolment may be: suspended,
Assessment: Assessments are both theory and practical and most will involve you conducting some research. Assessment guidance will be provided at the commencement of each assessment activity.
Grievances:
Complaints:
- if you have a complaint and this is not readily resolved by friendly discussion, you have the right to enter into a formal complaints resolution process without prejudice or penalty
- all complaints must be in writing
- where the complaint cannot be resolved internally, we will refer it to an external mediation source
- all results of the resolution process will be recorded and you will receive the decision in writing
- if you disagree with the judgement of your course assessor, or feel you have been unfairly judged "not yet competent" you may appeal the decision
- the appeal must be entered within 30 days of the assessment decision
- the process will be handled in the same manner as a formal complain
Progress: You are expected to make reasonable progress through your chosen program.
Progression rules:
- once you have commenced training, you are expected to progress through your qualification at a reasonable rate, which is generally not more than two months to complete any Unit
- if there are good reasons for a delay, you must keep us informed so we can note this on your student records
- any student who is not progressing and who fails to respond to normal contacts, may have their enrolment suspended, in which case you will be contacted in writing and be given a date before which contact must be resumed
- any student who is not progressing and who fails to respond to normal contacts for six months or more, will have their enrolment terminated
- any re-enrolment after suspension or termination may be subject to a study contract
Award:
Issuance of Qualifications:
Qualifications and Statements of Attainment are issued to students who meet the required outcomes of a Qualification or unit of competency, in accordance with all appropriate national guidelines.
Replacement of qualifications testamurs:
- if you lose your testamur, you can request a replacement and an administrative charge will be levied for this service
- at the current time, all past students who have lost their testamur due to floods, fires, cyclones or other natural disasters are provided with replacement free of charge
- you will be required to provide proof of identity when requesting a replacement testamur
Privacy:
Access to personal files:
- under FOI you have the right to examine your student file, but may not take away any materials from that file
- before you can gain access, we require proof of identity in order to comply with privacy legislation
- you may request photocopies of materials in the file, and an administration fee will apply to this
